Description

BLASTZERO 70 is a highly effective specific systemic fungicide containing Tricyclazole 70% WG, the most trusted and widely recommended active ingredient for rice blast disease management in India. Tricyclazole belongs to the Melanin Biosynthesis Inhibitor (MBI) group of fungicides — it works by specifically inhibiting the enzyme involved in melanin biosynthesis in the blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae. Melanin is essential for the blast fungus to form the hard melanized appressoria that generate the enormous turgor pressure needed to mechanically penetrate the rice leaf cuticle — without melanin, the fungus cannot penetrate plant tissue and the infection cycle is completely broken.

Rice blast is one of the most devastating fungal diseases in rice cultivation worldwide — in severe epidemic years it can cause complete crop failure in susceptible varieties. BLASTZERO 70 provides both preventive and curative protection against all stages of rice blast including leaf blast during the vegetative stage and the even more destructive neck blast, node blast and panicle blast during the reproductive stage. Neck blast infection at the panicle initiation stage can cause complete sterility of the panicle — resulting in catastrophic yield loss of up to 70–80% in severely affected fields. Timely application of BLASTZERO 70 at the panicle initiation and heading stages is therefore critical for protecting yield in blast-susceptible rice varieties and in areas with a history of blast epidemics.
