Description

VALIMAX is a highly effective biological origin systemic fungicide containing Validamycin 3% L, derived from the fermentation of the naturally occurring soil bacterium Streptomyces hygroscopicus. It is widely recognised as one of the most specific and reliable fungicides available for the management of sheath blight disease in rice — caused by the soil-borne fungal pathogen Rhizoctonia solani — which is one of the most widespread and economically damaging diseases in rice cultivation across India and Asia. Validamycin works by inhibiting trehalase enzyme activity in the target fungus, disrupting carbohydrate metabolism and causing complete cessation of fungal growth and mycelial development without directly killing the organism — a unique fungistatic mode of action that is completely different from conventional chemical fungicides.

VALIMAX provides both preventive and curative activity against sheath blight — when applied preventively at the tillering stage it prevents initial infection and lateral spread of the disease through the rice canopy, and when applied curatively at first symptom appearance it effectively arrests further disease progression and lesion expansion. For best results against sheath blight, spray should be directed towards the base and lower portions of the rice plant where Rhizoctonia solani mycelium spreads from leaf sheath to leaf sheath in the dense crop canopy — ensuring maximum contact of the active ingredient with the pathogen at the site of infection.

The biological origin of VALIMAX gives it an outstanding environmental safety profile — it is rapidly degraded in soil and water by natural microbial activity, has no harmful effects on beneficial soil organisms, natural enemies, pollinators or aquatic life, and leaves no harmful residues in rice grain at recommended application rates. This makes VALIMAX an ideal choice for environmentally conscious farmers and for use in integrated disease management programmes where minimising chemical inputs and protecting beneficial organisms are important objectives. With residual activity of up to 20–25 days per application and excellent crop safety at
